So, what is Jeves Inc?
|
Jeves Inc captures and encapsulates Jenny's background, skill-base and business interests. From law, early stage and mainstream investing, patronage of the arts, mentoring, global thought leadership and her support of certain charities.
It marks the bringing together of the many strands which merged in recent years in a substantial and influential way. Placing these on a more public platform was a natural step. Active venture investors provide many skills when supporting new ventures and the entrepreneurs behind them This isn't dissimilar to how some in the arts support the arts community. After all, as Jenny has often commented: investors who fund early stage ventures are to some extent patrons of entrepreneurs - and patrons are to some extent angels to the arts. Both invest in more ways than one. Jenny's always been an advocate for innovation - a theme she focused on first when studying law in the 1980's, writing honours research theses on the intersection between law and two quite different (and at that time very new) areas of innovation - protecting computer software on the one hand and new birth technologies on the other. Her approach to high-end commercial litigation (from maritime through to international insolvencies) was known to be innovative, global and precedent-setting. Crossing one area of law over into another to find a solution where others could not, was one of her most effective strategies. For Jenny innovative disruption by new technology was always going to happen - but until relatively recently the reality was that effective and reliable frameworks didn't exist to enable ventures to evolve and scale up in a consistently savvy manner and with the necessary speed. Jenny's work is, in part, reflective of a Foundation (having a philanthropic as well as commercial angle) and Jenny is always open to assisting important game-changing ventures which may fall into the category of thought leadership with a global or local, commercial or social focus. More recently, Jenny was the principal founding sponsor of and an advisor to AmbitionNZ - a project considering and assessing the concept of ambition and what it means to New Zealanders. She was the inaugural Foundation Partner of the Impact Awards for its initial three years. The primary focus of the new ventures Jenny invests in are innovative/disruptive new tech/clean tech with global reach. (You can find the ventures at the Greenlight Ventures NZ website: www.greenlightventures.co.nz/). She is a supporter of NZ entrepreneurs and in addition to being a strong commercial operator she's a strong advocate of the importance of social enterprise (business for profit and purpose). |
